You ever step out of your door and then get to the location you planned on going to. Yet have no recollection of how you got there. That’s how New York Comic Con 2011 was for me. I stepped on to the show floor on Thursday and somehow it’s Saturday!

I had a plan this year and that was to get sketches from my favorite artists, but before that I had one thing to do. I had to adjust to the perception of reality that is present only at an event such as comic con. What reality is this? The reality of fantasy, though I have a child-like personality, I don’t see people in costumes of all shapes and sizes everyday. It’s a bit overwhelming at first when you realize that there’s plenty of people WAY more die hard about things than you. It’s not a knock on them, “to each his own” right? So once I got used to the hundreds of Dr.Who’s, Spidermans and Batmans. I got to back on track and got some gorgeous original art from heavy hitters like Cliff Chiang, Phil Noto and my personal favorite Amy Reeder.

Here’s some of the art that will be adorning my walls soon.

I was at a concert the other night. Standing at the balcony, I saw people file in with anticipation for the show to come. I was too, till I noticed from my top down angle, I could see right into the photo pit. The place I haven’t been in for quite sometime. I watched as the photographers set up their camera to the lighting conditions of the venue, schmoozing with the lucky few squeezed in the front, the friendly interaction between photographers most likely chatting up their equipment and angles they like for the evening. I began to miss it. Why has it been so long since I’ve worked a room? Then the excuses started to file in my head. “Late nights with work in the morning you’ll be a wreck the next day.” The thing is there’s a million excuses I could come up with to not do something. Instead I gotta look at the million reasons why I should do things. I thought of a good one. “It’s a part of my livelihood!”

Okay so about a year ago I decided to go old school and shoot on film for a change. Long story short I like it a lot. It’s expensive when you think, buying film, developing it and if you don’t have a scanner forget it , even more $$$. I finally got a film scanner to digitalize these suckers and I’m happy the way the came out. The spinner photos are something I am really into now. The whole 360 view is quite interesting and I’m going to be doing more so I hope to be share’n some soon.

Me @ Killington, VT ‘07 - It’s been awhile since I’ve been out there

Ahh 2nd post this week. This is becoming a bad habit. Well where to start. Hmm, oh yes today wasn’t a typical work day for me. Which for me, since my days normally feel like they’re on repeat at work, it’s totally welcome. I was asked to be present at a meeting all the way out in Jersey. It was kind of cool that they had me brought all the way out just for that. Apparently I know stuff, who knew.

When I got out today there was an almost serene type of feeling as I walked past the Rockefeller rink. There was still the typical amount of tourists around but for some reason, it was quiet, you could barely hear any car engines or chatter, there was peace. Peace in the middle of the busiest city in the world. It was awesome. It reminded me of that kind of quiet I’d get when I’d stand a the summit of a mountain right before snowboarding down. I miss that.
